The Twentieth Century English literature paper seeks to focus its primary attention into the modernist era and also observe the developments that have taken place in the literary perspectives from the preceding Victorian era. A thorough understanding of the literary styles and perception of this period can be done by exploring some of the monumental texts of this period written by poetic and literary stalwarts like T. S. Eliot, Virginia Woolf, Sylvia Plath, Benjamin Walter, Susan Sontag, William Butler Yeats ,James Joyce, Synge , Osborne, W.H Auden etc. The course includes looking at Lawrence’s work Sons and Lovers , the different characteristics of George Bernard Shaw’s drama, craftsmanship of Auden as evident from his poems, satiric writing of Huxley’s work, understanding the thematic consciousness behind Beckett’s,’ Waiting for Godot’ and Arthur Miller’s ‘Death of a Salesman’, literary vision of Eliot as depicted in ‘The Wasteland’, unique ending in ‘Look Back in Anger’. The paper will have 10 long questions, each carrying equal marks i.e. 16 and you have to write any 5 as the paper holds 80 marks. You can also get alternatives in some of the questions as well.
