There are 24 Sainik School in India.

The admission in Sainik Schools is done either in Class VI or in Class IX.

The admission is done based on merit of the applicants in the entrance exam conducted by
Sainik School followed by medical test and interview.

Mathematics 200 marks
Science 75 marks
English 100 marks
Social Studies 75 marks
Total 450 marks

The following reservation system is applied for admission in Sainik Schools.
67% seats reserved for boys of the State where the school is located.
The remaining 33% seats are open for boys from all other States and UTs.
Within each category 25% seats are reserved for sons of service personnel including
ex-servicemen, 15% seats are reserved for SC and 7½% for ST candidates.

One should have an age between 13 to 14 years as on 1st July of the year in which
admission is going to take place.

The application form for the exam is generally made available from October month.
