Requirements for passing CA CPT december exam

Sir,
I have noticed an amendment in the chartered accountants act. Sir as per the new amendment it is essential to aquire minimum 30% marks in each section. Sir I just want to know does that rule applicable for the december 2012 CPT exam?

Yes my friend, this rule is applicable to the December 2012 Common Proficiency Test. The Common Proficiency Test is the first stage of the Chartered Accountancy course. You can register for CPT after finishing 10th, however only allowed to appear for the test after completing 12th standard.

Earlier candidates needed to obtain 50 percent marks to pass the Common Proficiency Test. However in the year 2010, ICAI sent a proposal to the government to change the rule of passing Common Proficiency Test.

While the proposal was first announced in 2010 by the ICAI it was only accepted by the government earlier this year. Therefore the rule is set to be implemented from December 2012 exam.

Here are the details:

There are four subjects in the Common Proficiency Test that are divided into two sections. These subjects are:

1. Fundamentals of Accountancy

2. Economics

3. Mercantile Law

4. Quantitative Aptitude

Now to pass the Common Proficiency Test you will need to score minimum of 30 percent marks in each section.

Your total percentage of both sections combined should not be less than 50 percent.

These are the new rules implemented by the ICAI. I hope this clears any confusion you may have.
