Dindigul District is located in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu and it is an administrative region located in the southern part of the state. The district was established as a new district from the district of Madurai in the year 1985 and before this year, Dindigul was a part of Madurai District. Dindigul district is bounded by the Karur and Erode Districts to the north, Tiruppur District and the state of Kerala to the west, Theni District to the southeast, Madurai district to the south and southeast and Tiruchirappalli district to the east.
