North Goa is one of the two districts in the state of Goa; the district is bounded by the two districts of the state of Maharashtra namely Kolhapur and Sindhudurg in the east, and north sides respectively. In the west, the district is bounded by the Arabian Sea and in the south, it is bounded by the other district of the state of Goa namely South Goa District. When it comes to education in this district a few government colleges are operating and the names of these colleges are given below:

Arts & Commerce College:

Government College of Arts & Commerce,  Pernem

Polytechnic College:

Government Polytechnic, Panaji

Some of the details regarding these two colleges running under the Government of Goa are given below:

Arts & Commerce College:

Government College of Arts & Commerce, Pernem came into existence in the academic year 1993-94 and the college is offering education with affiliation from the Goa University. This college offers the following courses and the duration of these courses is three years, divided into six semesters:

Bachelor of Arts

Bachelor of Commerce

First year of the Bachelor of Arts course includes six papers for each semester, second year includes seven papers for each semester and third year includes six papers for the first semester and seven papers for the second semester, which are semester numbers five and six for the whole course of Bachelor of Arts. As far as Bachelor of Commerce course is concerned there are eight papers for the first and second semester, seven papers each for the third and fourth semester and six subjects each for the fifth and sixth semester.

Polytechnic College:

Government Polytechnic, Panaji came into existence in the year 1963 and before this the institute was working under Portuguese rule. After Goa was liberated, the institute was shifted to its present campus with present name in the year 1968. Initially, the institute was offering only three diploma courses in disciplines like electrical, mechanical and civil engineering with approval from the Board of Technical Education of the state of Maharashtra. Now, the institute is offering 12 diploma courses with affiliation from the Board of Technical Education of Government of Goa in engineering subjects like computer engineering, garment technology, architectural engineering, electronics & instrumentation, food technology, electronic engineering, erection engineering & Fabrication technology, electrical, mechanical and civil engineering and also diploma in modern office practices.

Thus, North Goa district is served by these colleges thereby making the district educationally strong. Some of the languages spoken in this district are Portuguese, English, Hindi, Marathi and Konkani.
