CPT examination is called as CA CPT and it stands for Chartered Accountant Common Proficiency Test and this examination is conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountant of India (ICAI). It is the entry level examination for candidates who wish to take up Chartered Accountancy course from the Institute of Chartered Accountant of India. The examination is conducted four times a year during February, May/June, August and November months.

Upcoming CA CPT Examination:

The next CA CPT examination is planned to be held of 17th of June 2012 in two sessions with the following papers:

• First Session (Morning Session) – 10.30 Am to 12.30 PM (IST) for

o Section A – Fundamentals of Accounting

o Section B –Mercantile Laws

• Second Session (Afternoon Session) – 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm (IST) for

o Section C – General Economics

o Section D – Quantitative Aptitude

Eligibility requirement to apply for CA CPT June 2012:

To apply for CA CPT, candidates should fulfill the following eligibility requirements:

• Either cleared the senior secondary (10+2) examination or its equivalent examination or must have appeared for the 10+2 examination in March 2012 from a recognized board of education

• It is compulsory that candidates must have registered with the Board of Studies of ICAI on or before the 1st of April 2012

Marks required for passing the CA CPT Examination:

A candidate will be declared to have passed this examination it he/she scores at one sitting not less than 50% of marks in all four subjects. There is no specific minimum percentage of marks in each section and the 50% of marks should be secured by putting together the score of all papers.

Question paper pattern for CPT examination:

The examination will be conducted for 200 marks with 200 objective type questions and there will be deductions of 1/4th mark for each wrong answer. Therefore, candidates must be careful in answering every question and if a candidate selects two choices for a question, it will be regarded as wrong answer. Any fraction of mark secured by candidates will be rounded off to the next full mark when calculating the aggregate of marks secured in all four sections of CPT examination.

According to the Chartered Accountants Regulations, 1998, there is no provision for writing improvement examination for CPT and therefore candidates, who have cleared the CPT examination will not be offered a chance to apply for an improvement examination.

How to apply to CA CPT June 2012 Exam?

Candidates will have to apply for CPT examination using the prescribed form that can be obtained along with information brochure from the address given below on payment of Rs. 1000, which includes Rs.500 towards cost of application and information brochure and Rs.500 towards examination fee:

Duly filled application should be handed over in person at the offices of the institute at New Delhi and Decentralized office at the cities of Pune, Jaipur, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Kanpur, Kolkata, Chennai and Mumbai up to 25th of April 2012.

Online application:

Candidates can also apply to the CPT June 2012 examination online at www.icaiexam.icai.org. Online application will be open from the 4th of April to the 25th of April 2012 and candidates applying online will have to remit the examination fee of Rs.500 through Debit/credit card/VISA card and these candidates are not charged the application fee of Rs.500 with a view to encourage online application among candidates.

Application will not be accepted after last date with late fee, so candidates interested should apply before the 25th of April 2012 to take up CPT Examination.
