Leelabai Thackersey College of Nursing is acting as a constituent unit of the SNDT Woman’s University and the objectives of the institute are derived from the policies of the university. The college came into existence in the year 1952 as a department of the SNDT Woman’s University and became a full-fledged college in the year 1964.

The college got recognition from the Nursing Council of Maharashtra in the year 1965, which was confirmed by the Maharashtra Government in the year 1966. It got recognition from the Indian Nursing Council in the year 1969.

Leelabai Thackersey College offers the following courses in the field of Nursing:

Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Master of Science in Nursing

Eligibility requirement:

For seeking admission to the B. Sc Nursing course, candidates must have completed their higher secondary examination with English, biology, chemistry and physics subjects with not less than 50% of marks, which is 40% of candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC category. Candidates must have cleared this examination in the first attempt and they must have completed 17 years of age at the time of admission.

For M. Sc Nursing course, women candidates must have completed Bachelor of Science in Nursing with not less than 55% of marks in the first attempt. In addition, candidates must have two years experience, out of which one year should be in the clinical area, either in a community or in a hospital. Preference will be given to candidates with a minimum of six months experience in the area of clinical specialty for which they wish to get admission. In the case of candidates with Post B. Sc Nursing, experience before doing their B. Sc course will be taken into consideration. Candidates must also have registered themselves with the Nursing Council of the state of Maharashtra or any other state.

Admission Procedure:

Admission of students to the M. Sc nursing course will be done based on the entrance examination and personal interview conducted by the college and the results of the entrance examination will be valid only for the year in which the candidate has taken up the examination.

Admission to the B. Sc Nursing course will be on the basis of the entrance examination, which will have written test, personal interview and practical test. Written test will have papers like mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics and English.

Counseling and guidance:

The counseling and guidance centre functioning at the Leelabai Thackersey College of Nursing assists the students with vocational, educational and personal problems in such a way that they can concentrate on their studies and can complete their course with good percentage of marks. Candidates in their M. Sc course are offered with clinical experience in nursing.
