The current name of Allahabad Agricultural University, which is a deemed university is Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology & Sciences. The university was given this name in honor of its founder Dr. Sam Higginbottom who has contributed a great share towards the development of the field of agriculture in India. With the request made by the university to change its name to the Ministry of Human Resource Development of Government of India, permission was granted to re-christen Allahabad Agricultural Institute as Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology & Sciences (Deemed-to-be-university).

The university is striving to get a place in the international arena of Science & Technology while it is already pioneering in this field in India.
