Central University of Bihar was established by the Government of India through an Act of Parliament. The university was established with the objective of paying special attention to the development of economic and social conditions, to establish connection with industries for the development of science and technology and to educate and improve human resources for the growth of the nation and for the upliftment of cultural and intellectual skills of the people.

Different schools are functioning under the university and the schools functioning in the university are school of agriculture & development, school of law & governance, school of vocational studies, school of education, school of management, school of media, arts & aesthetics, school of human sciences, school of social sciences & policy, school of health sciences, school of technology, school of earth, biological and environmental sciences, school of physical and chemical sciences and school of mathematics, statistics and computer science. Central University of Bihar offers admission to the above-mentioned courses based on the performance of the students in the entrance examination, which includes multiple-choice questions from subjects like aptitude, reasoning, knowledge/general awareness and languages in the first part and the second part includes graduation level courses in the concerned subject.
