Devi Ahilya University came into existence in 1964 by the Madhya Pradesh state legislative assembly act. Initially, the university was called as University of Indore with its jurisdiction over Indore district alone. After that in the year 1988, the university got its present name and its jurisdiction was expanded to six more districts coming under Indore division. The university is offering education through more than 150 affiliated colleges coming under its jurisdiction and these colleges are offering not only normal courses, but also offering professional courses.
