Guru Jambheshwar University came into existence in the year 1995 on the 20th of October and the university was established through an Act of the Legislature of the state of Haryana. The university was formally inaugurated on the 1st of November 1995 and it was given this name in honor of Guru Jambheshwar Ji Maharaj, who was an environmentalist and saint during the 15th century. Initially, the name of the university was just Guru Jambheshwar University and its name was changed as Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology keeping in view the nature of courses offered by university and its mandate.

Guru Jambheswar University has its jurisdiction over institutions offering courses in the faculties of management, physiotherapy, pharmacy, engineering, technology and science in its own campus and all technical institutions except B. Pharm institutions located in the districts of Sirsa, Hisar and Fatehabad from the academic session 2011-2012. Guru Jambheswar University of Science & Technology offers education in the faculties of religious studies, medical sciences, engineering & technology, physical sciences, school of business, environment, bioscience and technology and faculty of media studies.
