India generates a lot of income through tourism. With this boom in the industry, various courses have also come up with different specializations. Many students today opt for such courses instead of the conventional ones. There are many diploma, degree and post graduate courses in tourism. There is a requirement for these professionals in both the public and private sector. Following is a list of some of the post graduate courses.

Master courses in Tourism Administration (MTA)

MTA is a 2 year course. The course deals with papers like principles, policies and  practices of tourism, customer relationship management, communication skills, behavioral science, even management, marketing and sales, destination management, airline management, etc. The students will also have to study foreign languages. There is summer training and industry project also. Amity Institute of Travel and Tourism, Jiwaji University Gwalior, Kurukshetra University Haryana, Christ College Bangalore, etc are some of the colleges that offer courses for MTA. IGNOU offers a course called Masters in Tourism Management which is the same as the MTA.

M.A. in Tourism Management

This is a two year course. The course has papers on tourism concepts and principles, travel agency management, tourism marketing, etc. Students are expected to study a foreign language. Banaras Hindu University, Madurai Kamaraj University, etc offer this course.

M Sc Hospitality and Tourism Management

There are many institutes that offer M Sc courses in tourism. M Sc Hospitality and Tourism Management is offered by Global Institute of Management Science Mumbai, Manipal University, Annamalai university, etc. Christ College Bangalore offers M Sc International Tourism Management.

MBA HTM

MBA in Hospitality and tourism management is another option. National Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Management Hyderabad, Bangalore Management Academy, GIMS, etc offer this course.

The eligibility criteria for these courses are the same. The candidate needs to be a degree holder. Some institutes give minimum percentage criteria too. A few of these institutes conduct entrance exam but most of them take direct admissions.

On successful completion of the course the candidate can seek managerial post in tour and travel industry. They could take up jobs in the hotels and travel agencies. They could also take up jobs in the airline industry. There are also opportunities in the Government tourism department, immigration services, customs department. Another option available is to start own venture.
