Oral medicine is a branch of medicine which is concerned with the oral structures, its health as well as the diseases related to it. It is a specialty of dentistry that relates to the medical treatment and management of diseases of or facial tissues. Radiology refers to the application of x-rays for taking the images of teeth and its adjacent regions and parts.

Eligibility Outline:

The admission to MDS courses are generally based on an entrance test. The student should have completed his BDS i.e, Bachelor of Dental Surgery.

Course Outlook:

MDS i.e. Master of Dental Surgery in Oral Medicine and Radiology is a post graduation course. The course is of three year full time duration. The subjects taught include nutrition, dietetics, pharmacology, radiology techniques, diagnostic methods, biostatistics, clinical pedodontics, Child Physiology etc.

Job Prospects:

After completing MDS in Oral Medicine and Radiology, one can work in the government as well as in the private dental hospitals. One can also opt for the post of lecturer in oral medicine and radiology department in various institutes. They can also opt for the research institutes and medical colleges as researchers.  They can also apply for the job in medical services of the army, navy, air force, under the Ministry of Defense.
