Being a government institute, National Institute of Technology is fully funded from the Government of India. This institute was earlier known as Regional Engineering College, Tiruchirapalli. This institute was established in 1964 as collaboration between the Government of India and the Government of Tamil Nadu. The college was given the status of a deemed university in the year 2003 and was then renamed as National Institute of Technology.

Courses Offered: The College offers B. Tech. in courses like Chemical Engg., Civil Engg., Electrical & Electronics Engg., Computer Science and Engg., Metallurgical Engg., Mechanical Engg., Instrumentation and Control Engg. and Production Engg. Post Graduation studies are conducted in branches like Structural Engg., Power Systems, VLSI System, Power Electronics, Welding Engineering, Environmental Engineering and many others.

Infrastructure: The College has a great campus and is equipped with all the modern facilities. The classrooms are spacious and laboratories are technologically advanced to make engineering studies a completely new experience. The libraries are filled with thousands of volume so that the students can easily quench their thrust for knowledge.

Placements: The Training and Placement Cell of this Institute is worth mentioning.  This placement cell believes in regular Industry Institute interaction and organizes seminars in the college. As a result they have cordial relations with many companies. The institute boasts of having more than 98% placement record with many students getting more than 1 package.

Admission Procedure: The admissions to the undergraduate courses of this college are through AIEEE. 50% of the seats are reserved for the students of Tamil Nadu. For admission through AIEEE, a student must have a good rank to get admitted in this college.
