NID DAT 2012 National Institute of Design PGDPD
National Institute of Design, under Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, is the top most dream institute of the Designing aspirants. The booming and increasing popularity of fashion industry made this career a demanding one in the present time. Each year a large number of aspirants are joining different academic programs in the fashion world. National institute of Design (NID) is the major institute for the designing aspirants and it is listed in the top 25 institutes in the European & Asian designing institute.
Hence getting an admission into the institute is much difficult. The Institute offer designing programs in undergraduate and post graduate level and performs separate entrance examination for both. For the postgraduate course the entrance examination is called Design Admission Test.
Structure of NID DAT
The designing admission test is of minimum 60 marks with one and half hours duration. The examination is to evaluate the candidate’s potential skills in various domains including,

- Proportions and Perspective
- General Mental Ability

The eligible candidates of the DAT will have a studio test in the main campus. The studio test also measures the candidates skills as a prospective designer. The more detailed syllabi and pastern well be there in the prospectus of DAT.
Eligibility Criteria
The basic eligibility requirement is the bachelor’s degree. The candidates must have a graduation in the specific designing field as mentioned against each program in the Post graduate level. The candidates can opt for maximum two programs in the post graduate level. The minimum age limit is 21 years and the candidates more than 27 yeas are not eligible for appearing the entrance exam. There will be suitable consideration for the candidates belonging to the special category as well as from abroad.
How to Apply?
The candidates can send a request form to the NID main campus for the DAT form with the Demand Draft from the nationalized bank, payable at Ahmedadad. The candidate can also download the form from the website, http://www.nid.edu/. The forms are available in the chosen branches of Bank of India and the candidates can directly purchase it with the cash payment Rs.1,500/-.
How to fill the Form?
The instruction about how to fill the form will be there in the prospectus attained with the application. The candidates should fill the form with needed care. They can fill the form using a Pen or Pencil, as instructed in the brochure with their own handwriting. The given information should be valid and there won’t be any mistakes in the filled form. If you made any mistakes in the form it will become a reason for rejecting your request for taking the examination. Paste the photo on the given place and mail the form with the attachment to the center of examination.

Study Plan
The number of seats available for each post graduate program is limited and hence only those candidates with higher score in the entrance examination will be considered for the next stages of the selection process. The basic thing the applicant must know regarding the examination is the nature and pattern of the question paper. For that you can search the internet for the previous year paper. You may also get the model paper for the NID DAT from education related websites. You can practice with these papers and can refer the books written by the expert people and publishing houses.
These books may also have the model paper and previous year paper. The coaching center will also help the student to have systematic preparation pattern. You have to improve your drawing as well as the analyzing ability and so focus more on this part. Read and watch English news which improve your communication proficiency and vocabulary and also contribute or general awareness part. Learn to see the things out of the conventional set up and practice innovative methods for the sensitivity and studio test.
How and Where To Get the Results?
The result of the DAT examination will be published on the web portal of national institute of design. The eligible candidates for the studio round will also send an official conformation and the information regarding the studio test get the information through post in the given contact address. This information is also available in the website and for further clarification regarding the exam the candidates need to contact with the NID camps.
Score Validity
The score of the entrance examination will valid for one year and is useful for the admission procedure of the present academic year programs in National institute of design.

i went to nid and enquired there, and i was told that the results would be out by monday! that is the 29th of march! official news! but keep trying, i have a feeling that it will be out earlier! he said “monday ko do peher”, the little man sitting at the entrance, after enquiring with a more influential person on the phone. Until then, the monday of truth, i will be typing furiously at the keys of the laptop to keep myself stable and sober in a state of such utter anxiety.
