Sahyadri Science College was established in the year 1940 by the then Government of Mysore as an Intermediate College. The college began to function in a different location and later in the year 1948, it was shifted to its present campus. Later in the year 1956, the college was upgraded as the First Grade College and its name was changed as Government First Grade College. Later in the year 1962, the college was given its present name and the college is affiliated to Kevampu University.

Sahyadri Science College is offering the following courses:

• Bachelor of Computer Application

• Master of Science in

o Applied Chemistry (five-year integrated course)

o Applied Physics (five-year integrated course)

o Organic Chemistry

o Bio-technology

• Master of Tourism Administration

In addition to the above-mentioned courses, the college is also offering several add-on courses, which are given below:

• Application of Bio-instruments in clinical laboratories

• Mushroom cultivation

• Herbal Drug Technology

• Electrical & Electronics Instrumentation

College library:

Sahyadri Science College library was established in the year 1940 and the library has a collection of more than 30,000 books on arts & commerce subjects and more than 30,000 books on science related subjects. The library is offering several services like internet facility, book bank facility, Xerox service, reference service, book lending service and bibliography. The library is spread over an area of 7450 square feet and it can accommodate 200 members at a time.

Hostel facility offered by the college:

The college is offering hostel facility only for boys and the hostel has been functioning for the past thirty years. The hostel has the capacity to accommodate 150 students and it is acting as an extended home for the inmates attending the college from different parts of the country. The college has received approval from the University Grants Commission for the construction of Women’s hostel and the construction is going on.
