The Maharishi Panini Sanskrit University which today has extended its viewpoint and domain to be called as Maharishi Panini Sanskrit Evam Vedic University was established by the special purpose in the minds of the vice chancellor and the government of Madhya Pradesh on the date of 15th August 2008. But it was the date of 17th August that the university began functioning towards its special goal and objective. The purpose for which the university came into existence was preserving and protecting the rich cultural and linguistic heritage related to Sanskrit in terms of literature and the other sciences like the Ayurveda, astronomy, architecture etc. that have been a part of the Vedic era in India. The city of Ujjain, poses a suitable environment to look for questions that have been left unanswered since very long and to finally answer them. Try to study and research over the many fields and the work of brilliant minds of that time ranging from the origin of geometry to military science, metallurgy and many others that still have posed many mysteries to mankind. The university came into being so that mankind is able to know more about the things of that time from every aspect possible.

The university is very specific and fully aimed towards its objective and in the way to keep going more towards the world of the language that has proved to be the mother of every language in the world and to the time where knowledge and skills took a divine shape; the university has 5 teaching departments solely working towards it. These teaching departments are:  Sanskrit, Jyotivigyan, Sanskrit saahitya and Saahitya Shastra, Veda, Jyotisha. These departments are the ones offering many teachings and research work in this field of study.

Besides the constituent colleges of the university in the city of Ujjain, the jurisdiction of the university allows the university to affiliated colleges in the state. The university holds up a fleet of 17 affiliated colleges working together towards the common objective of the University of improving the quality of knowledge about this pure language and thus setting up new bonds with our past.
