UPSC is a prestigious examination which is a dream for the most of the candidates because of its high standard and high competition between candidates. The examination is a way to reach to a good job and this paper is to judge the knowledge of English of the candidates.

Paper Pattern:

Questions in the paper of Essay, Precise writing and comprehension are a subjective paper. Questions asked are totally based on the reading and writing abilities of the candidates. The paper contains 4 questions, all questions are compulsory. Questions asked are further divided into sub-questions based on them. All questions are of different marks. There is no alternative in the paper. Question No. 1 and 4 are of very long answer type questions, they need a good reading and comprehension skill to answer these questions.

Questions in the paper are of subjective type. Answers are based on the comprehension, writing and reading capability of the students. Question No. 1 is of Essay writing, question No. 2 is of précis writing, Question No. 3 is of summery writing and question No. 4 is of reading part, unseen passage and questions based on it are there. Questions are not repeated and just the pattern is repeated every year.

Total marks and time allotted:

Total marks in the paper are 150 and time allotted is 2 hours only. Question of essay is of 60 marks, précis writing and summer writing is of 20 marks and unseen passage is of 50 marks. Each question is further divided into sub-questions and every question has its marking.
