Central Board of Secondary Education or CBSE conducts class 12 examinations in the month or March or April. In class 11 the students are divided into three streams i.e. Science, Commerce and Arts. History comes under Arts stream. In History the students are taught about the ancient, medieval and modern History of India as well as World.

The History paper is of 100 marks and the time allotted is 3 hours. The paper contains 23 questions and 2 Maps. There is a code number on the top right hand side of the paper. The candidates are required to write this code on the title page of their answer-book. The students are also given an extra time of 15 minutes for reading the question paper. During this interval they are not allowed to answer the questions.

Answers to the entire question are compulsory. The question paper is divided into 5 parts, part A, B, C, D and E. Part A contains 5 questions and each question is of 2 marks and answers of this part must not exceed 30 words. Part B consists of 3 sections and contains 11 questions, each of 5 marks and answers are to be written in not more than 100 words. Part C contains 2 questions of 8 marks each and answer must not exceed 250 words. Part D consists of 3 questions. In part D students have to answer some questions related to the extracts given. Part E is Map pointing.
