How to Prepare for the IGNOU B.Ed Entrance Exam?

Indira Gandhi National Open University conducts an entrance exam to select the eligible aspirants for pursuing the B. Ed course within the University. The duration of this program is 2 years. Aspirants should not take more than 4 years to complete the course. Those who complete the B.Ed course can practice teaching as a career. Having a graduation degree in Education, they can provide coaching up to the Higher Secondary classes. National Council for Vocational Training accredits the program.

Structure of the IGNOU B.Ed Entrance Exam

The eligibility criterion to apply for the test is a graduation in any disciplines. It should be from an acknowledged University. Admission process in the University will be carried out with reference to the qualifying exam marks and the score in the entrance test. The entrance test is usually held in the month of July / August. It will be an objective type test which contains two parts – Part A and Part B. There will be 100 questions for the test. All questions carry equal marks.

Syllabus of the IGNOU B.Ed Entrance Exam

Questions on common awareness, GK, teaching and learning at school level will be included in Part A. Logical and methodical reasoning and educational based questions will also be there in the first part. In the second part, there will be questions on the qualifying exam technical subjects.

An English language test will also be conducted as part of the exam. It includes synonyms, antonyms, preposition, articles, essay writing, reading comprehension, grammar and its usage, etc. In the logical and reasoning session, there will be questions like true and false, analogies, data sufficiency, coding and decoding, arithmetic operations, Boolean operations and so on. In the Educational and general awareness section, questions will be on current affairs, general science, History of India, Economic status.

Aspirants can refer the NCERT guides and other specialized books on the entrance test as part of preparation for the exam. Some books which they can refer to are

Study Plan for the IGNOU B.Ed Entrance Exam

They should cultivate the habit of reading newspapers so as to be update with the current events. In addition, reading newspapers may help them to improve their general knowledge and vocabulary. They can also procure preceding years’ papers from different sources. By working out problems fixing a time, they may be able to gain speed and in gaining confidence in attending the mains.
