Agricultural Engineering College & Research Institute is one of among the different constituent colleges operating under the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University. The college was established with the objective of producing technocrats towards the challenges of fuel and food shortages, ethnic energy crises, labour shortage, challenges of population explosion, etc… in such a way that poverty can be alleviated thereby bringing about economic development of the nation.

Course details:

Agricultural Engineering College & Research Institute offers Bachelor of Technology in Agricultural Engineering, which is a four-year UG course and the institute was the only college offering this course in the whole state of Tamil Nadu. The college has four departments under its control for offering education to the students of B. Tech Agricultural Engineering course and they are agricultural sciences, soil water conservation and agricultural structure, agricultural processing and basic sciences, farm machinery and bio-energy.

Industrial Training:

The course curriculum is designed in such a way that students can get hands on training in several ways. The course includes 50% theoretical classes and 50% practical classes, wherein students are taken to industrial visits. Above all, in the final year of their course, students are very much attached with the related industries for getting training. They are exposed to a village stay program where in they get to know the firsthand problems of farmers at the lower income level. These training activities enable the students to act independently.

Placements:

The graduates from the Agricultural Engineering College & Research Institute are able to find job opportunities in different areas of agricultural engineering including government organizations, universities, consulting firms and private organizations in the research field. A sizable number of past students of this institute are working for corporate organizations in the Middle East countries. The placement cell functioning in the college enables the final year students to get placement opportunities in good organizations even before they complete their graduation.
