BHEL carry out the selection for Engineer Trainees on the basis of GATE score. Recruitment is carried out in to the engineering streams of Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics. Applications can be forwarded through the official web portal of BHEL. From the pool of received applications, BHEL selects eligible candidates on the basis of GATE score and personal interview.

Eligibility Criteria

Those who have pursued Bachelor of Engineering /Technology, Integrated Master’s degree, or Dual Degree in Engineering/Technology  in areas of Mechanical /Electrical /Electronics Engineering are eligible to apply. Equivalent qualifications like AMIE from AICTE approved institutions will also be considered for the selection process.  The upper age limit for engineering graduates is 27 years where as that for master degree holders is 29 years.

Students who have graduated in following streams in engineering are considered for Mechanical Engineer Trainee posts. They are

  • Manufacturing Process and Automation
  • Manufacturing Technology
  • Mechanical Production and Tool Engineering
  • Mechatronics
  • Power Plant Engineering
  • Production and Industrial Engineering
  • Production Engineering
  • Production Technology Manufacturing Engineering (NIFFT Ranchi)
  • Thermal Engineering

Candidates who have pursued any of the following streams in the qualifying degree can apply for the post of Electrical Engineer Trainee

Application Procedure

Applications can be forwarded through the official web portal of BHEL. One must pay an amount of Rs. 100/- as processing fee before starting the application process. Fee amount can be paid through Powerjyoti Account. Once the filled up application is submitted, the candidate will get an acknowledgement slip. This acknowledgement slip must be sent along with an affixed photograph (of the candidate) and challan of Rs.100/- to the mentioned address of BHEL.

Selection Process

Selection process is carried out on the basis of GATE score and interview marks. During selection, 75% weightage is given to the score obtained in GATE exam where as later 25% is reserved for personal interview section. Those who clear all these stages have to undergo a medical examination process. Candidates who meet with the health standards mentioned by the company are only selected for the post of Engineer Trainee.
