Career In Actuarial Sciences
If you wish to be an actuary then it becomes must for you to be well versed in statistics, economics and finance and above all the talent to implement the knowledge you have to predict the consequences of a certain event on finances. In very simple words you need to access the current and the future situations and apply the theory of probability to predict the financial future.
Becoming an actuary is a tough nut to crack but it’s worth the effort. There are two examining bodies namely Actuarial Society of India (ASI), Mumbai or the Institute of Actuaries, London. You will have to become a fellow of any one of these organizations to become an actuary. The job profile and the challenges you will face are such that if you beat them then there is every probability of making to the upper management and executive positions.
Eligibility:
Any person with minimum 18 years of age and having a high degree of aptitude for mathematics and statistics can take up the course and become an Actuary. Both the above bodies have their certificate and associate level courses. Upon successful completion of these courses, once can register himself with ASI and can be called as an actuary.
Job Prospects and Career Options:
One of the most wide areas of getting absorbed is the insurance sector but due to increasing needs of the companies to manage their finances, some other non insurance sectors such as employee benefits, health insurance, asset-management, reinsurance, insurance broking houses and consulting companies are also showing increasing interest into hiring actuaries. As I already said cracking this tough nut is worth and I would support this fact by saying that Stipend for an actuarial trainee per month in India is around Rs 25,000 per month. Salary packages may also range from 8 lacs per annum for beginners to around 40 lacs per annum for those in senior positions.

the site actuariesindia.org says that you require 85%in class 12th maths or 55% in mathematical subjects in grad which should be 50% of the course content. nothing regarding entrance exams are mentioned. is it true that we can get admission in actuary through enterance exam? is there a criteria regarding the eligibility for the entrance exam?
I am graduate in Royal but I want to take up the course and become an Actuary. Can I?
