The Cochin University is one of the foremost institutes of the south imparting technical education. The field of engineering is a very diverse one and involves a number of offshoot branches. The computer science engineering is one of the most sought after branches of engineering in the country.

Importance of the paper

The computer science engineering is a branch of non conventional engineering. It stresses a lot at the innovative skills of the student since the computer industry is still in the phase of evolution. Thus the paper largely deals with the question that test the innovative skills of the candidate in the field of the transmission and reception of the digital signals and their coding and decoding at the sites of transmission and reception respectively.

Format

Two formats are there, one of 2002 scheme and other of 2006 scheme. In previous format parts division was not there, which was introduced in new scheme.

Paper pattern and Marking

10 questions of this paper has been paired like answer question 1 or 2, the 3 or 4 and like this. Here questions hold 20 marks. In another or new scheme 1st part has 8 compulsory questions of 5 marks each and second part follows the same old pattern, the only difference being the marks which is 15 here.

Some questions from the question paper

The questions that most frequently feature in the question paper are

Explain the properties of the discrete systems with suitable examples.

Find the Z-transform of the given functions.

Explain any five properties of the region of convergence.

Time allotted: 3 hours

Recommended books

The most popular books are the Understanding Digital Signal Processing by Richard D. Lyons and The Scientist and Engineer’s and Guide to Digital Signal Processing by Steven W. Smith.
