It was in the year of 1987, that the field of law became a wide known career and that too a popular one rising from the ashes of being the most neglected one. The Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University came into existence on the date of 4th January 2006 by the passed act of the government of Uttar Pradesh by the act no.28 of the year 2005. Initially it was an institute passing on the legal knowledge but by the amendment in the act in November 2006, this prestigious institute like the other Law universities was entitled with the designation of a complete university in India.

The objective of the institution from its foundation lies in the belief of carving out people from the country and imparting them with knowledge about the legal and the law system so that they may excel to serve the nation in fields like advocacy, judiciary and other legislative and legal services. The institute has seen all the changes and the developments in the area till the 21st century and has so modernize its training patterns to fulfill the country needs of trained lawyers with the new mindset. Beside this objective, the institution also has on going seminars, lectures, conferences and symposiums for encouraging the imparting of knowledge in law and legal services.

The university is located in the south western region of capital city of Uttar Pradesh i.e. Lucknow over a campus of 40 acres. The campus holds in itself a complete setup for 1500 students and other 100 teaching and non- teaching staff persons. This campus is centrally located with airport, railway station, medical center, high court and vidhan sabha within the radius of 10kms.

As for the courses in the university, they offer B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) which is a 5 year integrated course, PhD, LL.M. etc by the recognition of Academic Council. All the intake to these programs is being done by the common law admission test (CLAT) conducted by the university at the time of admissions besides the other constraints of the qualifying or equivalent examination in the senior secondary school examinations or graduation result.
