Lady Keane College is a pioneer in the field of women education in the north-eastern part of the country and it was formed in the year 1935. The college has contributed not only to the development of women, but also to the social development of the whole region as well. The college was initially started as Lady Keane School in the year 1932 named after the wife of the then governor of Assam and later in the year 1935, it was converted as an intermediate college for women. Initially, the college was affiliated to Calcutta University and later in the year 1948, it was shifted to Gauhati University and from the year 1973 to till date, it is functioning under the jurisdiction of North Eastern Hill University. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council has awarded the college with ‘B’ Grade status.

Courses Offered:

The college is offering education through three of its departments namely, language, arts and science. The courses offered under each of these departments are given below:

Language Department:

The college is offering Bachelor of Arts (honors & general) in Nepali, Bengali, Assamese, Hindi, Garo, Khasi and English through the language department.

Arts Department:

Bachelor of Arts (honors & general) in sociology, Political science, philosophy, history, education and economics is offered through this department.

Science Department:

Courses offered by the college through science department are B. Sc in zoology, physics, mathematics, chemistry, botany and biochemistry.

Admission:

For getting admission to the honors degree courses conducted by the college, the students should get through the entrance examination conducted by the college. In the case of other arts and science courses, candidates who have secured more than 80% in the higher secondary education are offered spot admission and remaining applied candidates, will be admitted on the basis of the merit list.
