Jawaharlal Nehru Agricultural University popularly known as Jawaharlal Nehru Krishi Vishvavidhyalaya was given its name in honor of the architect of Modern India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. It is a multi-campus university inaugurated by Smt. Indira Gandhi on the 2nd of October 1964. The campus of the university is spread over an area of 1966 ha, out of which 1250 ha is used for seed production and agricultural research. The mission of the university is to conduct extension, research and education activities for improving sustainability, profitability and productivity of agricultural production system and enhancing the quality of rural livelihood in the state of Madhya Pradesh in India. The university was given the responsibilities of serving as a centre for research and teaching in agricultural and allied areas and to disseminate technology to organizations, extension personnel and farmers engaged in agriculture development. Jawaharlal Nehru Agricultural University is offering courses at UG, PG and doctoral level in the fields of agriculture and agricultural engineering. The university is following semester pattern of examination and it has contributed to food security through the development of different crops like maize, wheat, rice, chickpea, sorghum, etc…The university is basically divided into two separate divisions being department of agriculture and department of forestry. For admitting students to the bachelor degree courses, the university is conducting pre-agriculture test for agricultural engineering and agriculture courses and this examination is organized by the university with the help of Madhya Pradesh Board of Professional Examination. As far as post graduation courses are concerned, admission is made on merit basis. Every year, the university is creating extra seats for Indians living abroad and foreign students.
