Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management shortly called as GITAM was established in the year 1980 by a team of distinguished industrialists and intellectuals in the state of Andhra Pradesh. It was registered as a society under the Societies Act 1980 and the registered office of the institution is located at Visakhapatnam. The institution received the status of Deemed University from the UGC under sec 3 of its act in the year 2007 on the month of August. After it has received the status of deemed university, several programmes under UG, PG, M. Phil and Ph. D level were introduced by it. At present, 4 constituent institutions are working under this university and recently another campus at the city of Hyderabad was established by the university. In addition to the above-mentioned institutions, GITAM School of International business and GITAM Hyderabad business school is also functioning under the university. The off-campus of GITAM University at Hyderabad offers three-year MCA, two-year MBA and four-year B. Tech courses from the academic year 2009-10. It is a multi-disciplinary university offering a variety of courses in the areas that can bring about development and growth in the economy. The courses offered by the university combine both traditional and career-oriented courses and with the raising importance of career-oriented courses, the university is presently focusing on career-oriented courses as compared to conventional courses. The university has started several new courses after interacting with different job-oriented industries. GITAM University conducts GAT UGT for admitting students to the UG courses and GAT PGT for admitting students to the postgraduate courses. Some of the courses offered by the university are B.
