How to prepare for Common Entrance Examination for Design?

The Common Entrance Examination for Design is all India entrance test is carried out by the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. The CEED is held on behalf of the Department of education, MHRD. In the CEED entrance exam tests, ever applicant will be evaluated in their design aptitude, visual insight, drawing talent and communication ability. The candidates qualifying in the CEED will be admitted into post graduate MD courses at the Industrial Design centre. The candidate should have completed any under graduate degree in design or Engineering.

Structure of the Exam

The CEED Entrance Exam has two parts. The time allotted for the exam is 3 hours. The questions will be asked in relation to problem recognition and testing, drawing ability, communication plan and logical calculation.

Syllabus of the Exam

The Visual perception and Creative Ability Test will judge candidate visual sensitivity and imagination. This also checks candidate drawing skills, creativity, aesthetic sensibility, problem identification and their approach to visual and product design. The candidates are asked to finish the incomplete drawing or to imagine and draw a given object in another angle. The section two has mainly objective type questions that will test candidate skills in design, creativity, visualization, comprehension and general awareness. They should have the ability to express their thoughts on the given topic and comprehend a passage and summarize it. The design aptitude section presenting different designs and draw alternative designs to the given design are some of the questions asked in this section. Identifying the mistakes in the given design, analyzing it and suggesting a correct design will be asked in this section.

The success in the CEED exam will depend on the originality and innovative skills of the candidate more than their academic knowledge. Applicants must have the aptitude to recognize mistakes in the given sketch. They must also have excellent analyzing capacity and creativity. The candidate has to practice the previous year question papers. These question papers are available in the website of IIT Mumbai. Time management can be learnt from practicing the old question papers in a fixed time. They should allot time for each section and cover all the portions thoroughly.
