Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati University came into existence in the year 1987 on the 1st of August in the name of Ajmer University and it was awarded its present name in the year 1992. The university began to offer courses through its mathematics, botany, zoology, political science and history departments in the year 1990 and in the following year M. Phil course was introduced by Botany, political science and history departments and later several other job oriented courses were introduced by these departments. The university was shifted to its present campus in the year 1993 and during this year several new departments like management studies, food and nutrition, microbiology, applied chemistry and computer applications were introduced.
