Difference between GRE and GMAT

Both Graduate Record Examination and Graduate Management Admission Test are entrance tests conducted for selecting eligible candidates for post graduation studies. GRE test is carried out for providing admissions to the graduate school programs like psychology, chemistry, mathematics and so on. Aspirants who have the required score in the GRE test can carry on with their post graduation programs in any of the science subjects. However, through GMAT, aspirants can seek out for admission in any of the business schools for doing the masters’ course in business administration. The score in both the tests are valid for 5 years. Those who wish to do the doctoral studies in business field can attend any of these two tests.

There are many courses that an aspirant can pursue with the score of GRE test. They can do postgraduation courses in Engineering and related subjects, if they have high scores in the entrance test. Various Universities and institutes offer varied courses in M.Tech and M.E. for these qualified candidates. The total score of the test is 2400. Educational Testing Service conducts the test, which is held for a time period of 180 minutes.

Graduate Management Admission Test and its opportunities

Graduates from recognized Universities can apply for the GMAT entrance test for getting admissions for the MBA program. The test is used as a decisive factor for allotting admission to scholars globally. There are around 1700 Universities and institutes worldwide offering management studies. Admissions in these colleges are carried out considering the score in the test and the qualifying exam marks. The GMAT exam lasts for 3 and half hours for a score of 800 marks.

Key differentiators between GRE and GMAT

Although both these tests are designed to evaluate the candidate’s potential by assessing their mathematical, verbal and analytical writing skills, the purpose of these exams are different. GRE test is conducted for admitting aspirants in the science related post graduation courses whereas GMAT is carried out for providing admissions to the business administration post graduation courses.
