Like CBSE and ICSE, Chhattisgarh Board of Secondary Education (CGBSE) Raipur conducts board exam every year for class 10 and 12 students, but it is a state board. Class 10 students appear for a total number of 10 papers and special English is one of them.

Motive of paper:

21% of the paper is direct questions testing knowledge, 55% is based on understanding of the questions and the rest 24% are purely application based questions where the students knowing grammatical rules needs to apply to either correct sentences or fill in with appropriate word.

Time duration:

The paper is of 3 hours.

Pattern of the paper:

The paper has 9 sections. There are 10 questions from prose in the first section, 5 are of 2 marks and the remaining 5 are of 5 marks each. The last question even contains a choice. Next are4 questions from poetry and each of them is for 2 marks. Next is the vocabulary section where questions like make sentences, give one word are asked. It is for 10 marks. 15 marks are devoted to the grammar section. One also has to write a story, paragraph, précis and letter each of which is for 4 marks in the writing section. And finally there is a composition and comprehension for 8 marks each.
