Mother Teresa Women’s University was formed in the year 1984 under an Act of Tamil Nadu Government. It is located at the hill station of Kodaikanal in the state of Tamil Nadu and it has earned a distinctive place in the field of higher education and it is the only university meant exclusively for women in the region.
In addition to offering courses in regular mode through the constituent and affiliated colleges, the university is also offering courses through distance mode so as to equip women to face the changing educational requirements.
The distance education is handled by the distance education school of the university and it was formed in the year 1988. The list of constituent colleges, affiliated colleges and B. Ed colleges coming under the jurisdiction of this university is given below:

Mother Teresa Women’s University was set up with the responsibility of conducting research, consultancy services and monitoring the areas of women studies. The university is offering post-graduate diploma, Ph. D, M. Phil, post-graduate and under-graduation courses through its 12 departments.
In addition to the main campus at Kodaikanal, the university has two other centers in Chennai and Madurai. The campus of the university includes a library, which maintains a collection of more than 50000 books in different fields of education. The library is also equipped with internet and Inflibnet facilities. The mission of the university is to promote quality education to women at all levels, to carry out research, to contribute towards development of women and to identify and address the needs of women.
