Occupational Therapy promotes the health of people by enabling them to perform purposeful and meaningful operations. Many hospitals appoint occupational therapists to relieve people from either mental and physical problems that prevent them from engaging in their day to day activities.

Bachelor of Occupational Therapy, which is shortly called as B.O. Th. is a course offered for preparation of Occupational Therapists and this course is being offered in a number of colleges in India and the list of government colleges offering this course in India is given below:

Government Colleges offering Bachelor of Occupational Therapy course:

Government Medical College & Hospital, Nagpur

National Institute of Orthopedically Handicapped, Kolkata

Even though, the list of government colleges offering this course is lesser, many private medical institutions and private colleges specially meant for occupational therapy are offering this course in India. Totally 21 colleges are offering this course in different parts of the country, of which the aforesaid colleges are run by the Government of Maharashtra & Government of India respectively.

Eligibility for seeking admission to Bachelor of Occupational Therapy course:

For getting admission to this course, candidates must have completed their higher secondary examination with biology, chemistry and physics subjects with not less than 50% of marks.  Some of the colleges conduct entrance examination for admission of students to the Bachelor of Occupational Therapy course.

What is the course curriculum?

In this course, candidates will be learning about development and growth of human beings with specific focus on environmental, socio-cultural, cognitive, psychological, physical and emotional components of different injuries and illness.

Higher studies after Bachelor of Occupational Therapy:

On completion of this UG course in Occupational Therapy, candidates who have secured not less than 50% of marks can seek admission to the Master of Occupational Therapy course, which is being offered by some of the institutions like Manipal Academy and Jamia Hamdard University.

Career Prospects on completion of Bachelor of Occupational Therapy course:

These professionals can find job opportunities in NGOs, rehabilitation centers, health centers and private clinics and government and private hospitals. Nowadays, Occupational Therapists are finding job in supervisory roles and due to the increasing costs in healthcare sector, some of the third party payers are encouraging occupational therapist to aid and assist them to take more hands-on responsibility. Some big corporate houses are also employing occupational therapist to offer help to their staff in the case of any emergency. These graduates can earn a starting pay of not less than Rs. 8500-11500 per month and can earn more as they gain experience.
