Indira Kala Sangit University also called as Indira Kala Sangit Vishwavidhyalaya was formed in the year 1956 in the state of Chattisgarh in India. Initially, the university belonged to the State of Madhya Pradesh. But, after the formation of Chattisgarh state, it came under this state. The university is an associate of the Association of Indian Universities.

The campus of the university is divided into five sections namely department of arts, folk music, visual arts, dance and music. Normally, scholars and students of music, actor/actresses, music promoters, art critics, musicologists and musicians from all over the world make their presence in the university’s campus to explore the latest and best in the literature & theatre arts, visual arts, Indian classical dance and music. The objective of Indira Kala Sangit University is to offer instructions in all branches of fine arts and music so as to make provisions for advancement of studies and research in fine arts and music and dissemination of knowledge there of. The jurisdiction of this university is spread over the whole country of India since it is one of the few institutions in the country that can affiliate centers and colleges all over India.

Institutions imparting instructions exclusively for fine arts and music, which are not affiliated to any other university in India even situated outside the state of Chattisgarh can be affiliated to this university. The campus of the university includes several facilities like residential blocks for teachers, hostels for boys and girls, library and a playground.
