Any decision related to education is an important concept in an individual’s life. During our study time we may take a large number of decisions which actually determines the future of the person. People understand the critical importance of gaining knowledge and hence they are taking enough attention and time to take any decisions regarding their education. Education is considered as one of the major investment in human life and if we put our money in the right place it will bring the right color in our life. If it is not invested in the right place not only you loose your money, time and effort but also your future will be in vague.

We probably think that the decision points are there after the plus two and after graduation. It may be because more serious decisions are taking at this point. It is the time may most of us start thinking about our career and hence about the professional courses. We know that in these days there are lot of discussions and issues are happening in our professional course sector and our students union already call for strikes so as to take some political advance. The problem in the professional sector is always there with the colleges under the private management, self financing colleges.

Designing a fee structure in these institutes is always a puzzle for the government and normally the fee structure is higher for the private institutes when compared to that of the Government colleges. Also the Government colleges offer enough learning environment and facilities for the students. Hence when it comes to professional courses these imparities increased the demand for the Government institutions.

This is one side of the Indian education sector. But a crucial decision regarding our education is taken by our Parents. It is about the schooling part. We are not raising many discussions on this point because we are not involved in the decision taking process or there is not much option we can talk about.

The Major decision: Schooling

Schooling is a major decision in every learner’s life. Though it is the base of gaining knowledge it is also the main phase of developing personality of the individual. We know that for every matter the base is important since the future has to be built on it. The school may be the place where one probably spends the important phase of growing and learning the world around him/her. We already discussed that this major decision is taken by our parents, who may be doing this after a lot of search and research.

The main focus of every parent is to provide the most comfortable environment for their children for their growth and development. They are always careful to provide the best education for their child and the whole effort is to make a successful life and career path for the children.

In the schooling part there isn’t a long list of options where we need to take decision; the major decisions are regarding the stream, central or state, school, medium etc. Of these the critical one is to take about the school. The public and private schools are the general option left for the students and parents, any selection from the two will deeply affect the upbringing of the child. Today there is a common tendency among the parents to prefer the private schools rather than the government ones. There are some advantages and inconvenience in this decision. Some of those are,

What is the pro?

Here in our country now there are private schools in every corner and the number of private schools is much more than that of the public schools. There are many reasons why the parents are choosing the private schools than the public schools.

The major one is lies there in the quality of education. Our Government schools are identified with poor infrastructure and learning facilities. Where as the private schools are competing each other with these offering. They provide state of art infrastructure, technology support, technical facilities and modern laboratory facilities etc. The teachers are also a major fact in attracting the students to the private schools. In the private schools the students get Individual care and thus the pap rents are much tension free, which is not happening in the public schools. The private schools provides friendlier environment to the parents so they are more confident about the selection.

Another major concern is regarding the syllabus. Today the  environment is so competitive and there is no extra time for the students to prepare for the competitions. Most of the professional exams are based on the central syllabi and hence it is very common among the students to choose the same at their schooling. Another major fact is the disciple attitude and responsible mindset that the private school foster into the growing phase of the child. The efficiency in the English language and the opportunity exposure- scholarships, participating in different competitive examinations, exhibitions etc. - are also advantage of students in the private schools.

What are the drawbacks?

The students in the public schools are getting the opportunity to blend with all sorts of people. In public schools students from different backgrounds are studying together and it provides a flexibility and adaptive nature in their personality. But in the private schools the student are came almost from the same backgrounds and thus they do not have any experience of the external economy.

The fees and expense part of the private schools are also huge and thus the schools are not opened to every people in the economy. And also proves a little burden on the parent’s shoulders.

These are some positive and negative aspects of private and governemnt schools. Though the decision is left for the parents, they have to decide how their child should grow up, how they should see the world….
