The Central University of Punjab is located in a place called Bathinda and the university was established through an Act of Parliament being the Central University Act 2009. The university is presently offering education from a transit campus at the Batinda Integrated Cooperative Spinning Mills Limited and the own campus will be established at the Bathinda’s Ghudda Village, where in 500 acres of land has been acquired for construction of the campus. The jurisdiction of the university is spread over the whole state of Punjab and it is poised to write up a new language on the educational scenario of the nation.

During its inception in the year 2009, the university began its operations with four schools of education with one centre under each school. The names of these schools are school of global operations, school of basic & applied sciences, school of languages, literature & culture and school of environment and earth sciences. The centres functioning under these schools are Centre for South & Central Asian Studies, Centre for Biosciences, Centre for Comparative Literature and centre for environmental science & technology. The university was offering only four integrated M.Phil/Ph. D programmes through these centres of education and the details regarding these courses and some other courses that have been introduced by the university from the current academic year.

Central University of Punjab has entered into joint research project with University of Oklahoma located in the United States of America and discussions are underway for exchange of faculty members and students with foreign universities like Humboldt University, Westfalischer Wilhelms University and University of Witwatersrand. The university has entered into MOU with national institutions like AIIMS, New Delhi and discussions are underway for exchange of faculty members and students with Indian institutions like NIPER, IHBT, IISER and CSIO. Thus, Central University of Punjab acts as one among the newly established Central Universities in India with support from the Government of India.
