Govind Ballabh Pant Engineering College shortly called as GBPEC, came into existence in the year 1989 and it is presently an autonomous state government engineering college working under the government of Uttarakhand. Initially, the institution was under the government of Uttar Pradesh and it was established by the government for imparting engineering education and for promotion of technological environment in the region of Garhwal.

Even though, the institution came into existence in the year 1989, the first educational session began in the year 1991-92. From the academic year 2006-07, the college is offering engineering education with affiliation from the Uttarakhand Technical University.

Intake Capacity of the institution:

For the B. Tech courses offered by the Govind Ballabh Pant Engineering College, its intake capacity is 60 students per year, except for B. Tech in Production Engineering for which its intake capacity is 15 students per year. For M. Tech in Production Engineering and Computer Science & Engineering, the intake capacity is 18 students per year and for biotechnology it is 25 students per year, while for Digital Signal processing, it is 10 students per year. For Master of Computer Applications course, GBPEC is approved with an intake capacity of 60 students per year.

Eligibility for admission:

For seeking admission to the Bachelor of Technology course offered by the institution, candidates must have completed their 10+2 with mathematics/biotechnology/biology/computer science and physics and chemistry as subjects. The institute also offers lateral entry admission and for this candidates must have completed their diploma in engineering or technology of three-year duration or more from an institution approved by any state board of technical education. For seeking admission to the M. Tech (DSP) course offered by the institution, candidates must have completed their B. Tech/B.E. in any of the following subject or M. Sc in Electronics from a recognized institution with at least 60% of marks:

• Electrical Engineering

• Electronics & Communication Engineering

For M. Tech in Biotechnology candidates must have secured not less than 60% of marks at the B.E/B. Tech course in subjects with biological exposure like microbiology, biochemistry, biotechnology, life science, etc…

For MCA admission, candidates must have completed their graduation in any stream with mathematics as a subject at the higher secondary level.
