Thoubal District is one among the nine districts functioning in the state of Manipur and the district is located in the northeastern part  of India. The district is bounded by the Imphal East district on the West, Imphal South District on the West, Bishnupur and Churchandpur District on the south, Chandel & Ukhrul district on the east and Senapati District on the northern side.

According to the survey conducted on 2011, the population of the district is more than 1,00,000 people. The district has the town of Thoubal as its headquarters and the district is popular for the town of Khongjom since this is the place where the last battle of independence of the state of Manipur was fought in the year 1891 on the month of April against the British Army.

History of the district:

Thoubal District came into existence in the year 1983 on the month of May and for the formation of this district the Thoubal sub-division of the erstwhile Central District of Manipur with all its administrative units were transferred. Later on the month of November, the district of Thoubal was divided into Kakching and Thoubal sub-divisions comprising of Waikhong and Kakching Tahsils.
