The Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Vedic Vishwavidyalaya shortly called as MMYVV came into existence through the Act No.37 of the year 1995 of Government of Madhya Pradesh through Gazette notification dated 29th of November 1995. The head office  of the university is located in the geographical centre of India at the village called Karaundi in the district of Katni. It is acting as a member of the Association of Indian Universities and is recognized by the University Grants Commission under section 2 (f). The university is reputed to disseminate not only life-oriented Vedic education, but job-oriented modern education as well. The university holds the pride of being the only university to have introduced Vedic sciences and related technologies as its mainstream of education in the current modern education scenario.

The university is acting as an affiliating university with its jurisdiction spread over the whole state of Madhya Pradesh. The university has eight campuses each at Raise, Sagar, Indore, Bhopal, Jabalpur and Brahmsthan.
