The health care scenario was a matter of great concern for the PSG & Sons Charities and therefore they started the Maternal and Child Care Center at Vedapatti in the year 1961. In the year 1985, to marks the 60th anniversary of the trust, it entered the field of medical education thereby giving birth to the PSG Institute of Medical Sciences & Research on the 30th of September 1985. UG Course:

At the UG level, MBBS is being offered by the institution and the course extends to a period of four and half years followed by a year of compulsory rotating residential internship programme. This course is offered by the institution with degree being conferred by the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University located in Chennai and it is also recognized by the Srilankan Medical Council, General Medical Council of the United Kingdom and of course, the Medical Council of India. The course is divided into three phases. The subjects taught in these three phases are given below:
