The National Institute of Homoeopathy came into existence in the year 1975 on the 10th of December and the institute is operating from the city of Kolkata as an autonomous organization under the control of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of the Indian Government. The institute is functioning with affiliation from the West Bengal University of Health Science and it is functioning from its own campus.

Courses offered:

National Institute of Homoeopathy is presently offering degree course in Homoeopathy namely Bachelor of Homoeopathic Medicine and Surgery course and Doctor of Medicine in six different subjects with affiliation from the West Bengal University of Health Science and the list of courses offered by the institution is given below:

Some of the details regarding courses offered by the National Institute of Homoeopathy are given below:

Bachelor of Homoeopathic Medicine & Surgery:

This course offered by the National Institute of Homoeopathy extends to a period of five and half years, which includes one year of compulsory internship and the course is being offered by the institution from the year 1987. Students with higher secondary with biology, chemistry, physics and English subjects as recognized by the affiliating university are eligible to apply to the BHMS course. Total the institute has 83 seats for the course each year and out of these seats, 14 are allotted among the nominees of the union territories/states and 05 seats are reserved for students of BIMSTEC Countries, one seat is reserved for foreign national and 10 are filled by candidates sponsored by the Sri Lankan Government through the Department of AYUSH of Government of India. Selection for remaining seats will be done based on All India Written Competitive Test to be conducted at Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai, New Delhi and Kolkata.

Doctor of Medicine:

National Institute of Technology offers this PG Course, which is a full-time residential and regular course with permission from the Central Council of Homoeopathy. The course extends to a period of three years inclusive of one year house-job during which candidates shall be a resident in the campus and shall be offered training according to the provisions of sub-regulation (2) of Regulation 1010. For this course, totally 36 seats are available out of which nine seats for each branch is available for organon, repertory and material medica and three seats are available for each subject of paediatrics, homoeopathic pharmacy and practice of medicine. For admission to the MD courses, candidates with Degree of BHMS are eligible to apply and admission is conducted based on the merit secured by candidates in the entrance examination conducted by the WBUHS.
