Sikkim University is a central university which came into existence on July 2, 2007. The university was established under Sikkim University Act, 2006. There are approximately 1000 personnel working as academic staff in the university. The total strength of the students in the university is 25 thousand. The university has an urban campus spreaded in an area of 753 acres. Mr. M. S. Swaminathan is the present Chancellor of the university. All the colleges present in the state are affiliated to the Sikkim University. The university offers various courses in Physical and Life Sciences, Forestry etc.
