The National Dairy Research Institute was founded in 1923. Earlier, the institute was named as Imperial Dairy Research Institute. The academic programmes available in the institute are Doctor of Philosophy, Master’s Degree, B.Tech in Diary Technology, etc. The candidates can conduct research in the areas of Processing and Marketing of Dairy products. In order to strengthen the HRD activities of the institute, it has also been known as Centre of Advanced Studies in the streams of Dairy Technology, Animal Genetics, and Breeding.

Structure of National Dairy Research Institute Ph.D in Dairy Microbiology Entrance Exam

The entrance test for Ph.D in Diary Microbiology has only one paper. The applicants are given 2 hours to complete the test and the total marks are 200. The questions for the exam are based on True/False, Short Answers, Multiple Choice, and Match the following.

The candidates should secure a minimum of 100 marks in the written exam for getting admission to the Ph.D programme. The students who score less than 100 marks in the written test will not be admitted to the course even if there are vacant seats. The final selection depends entirely on the entrance exam score.

Eligibility Criteria

The applicants should have a minimum age of 21 years to apply for the Ph.D course. The candidates who have completed Masters of Science in any of the following discipline can apply for the Ph.D in Microbiology entrance exam.

This course is also applicable for those who have completed M.V.Sc in Bacteriology or M.Tech in Quality Control/ Microbiology / Dairy Bacteriology. Moreover, the candidates are required to secure a minimum of 60% marks in their Master’s Degree.

How to Apply?

For getting the application form and the prospectus through post, the applicant has to send a request letter to the following address.

Registrar, National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal – 132001, Haryana.

The candidates are also required to send a DD of Rs. 1200/- along with the request letter. The Demand Draft must be taken in favour of “ICAR UNIT, NDRI, KARNAL”. The following data should be there in the request letter.

  • Full address along with E-mail, pin code, and phone number
  • Name in bold letters
  • Details of DD

The candidates who buy the application form from the sale counter of NDRI should pay a fee of Rs. 1200/-. The form can be downloaded from the official website of NDRI also. The aspirant should send a DD of Rs. 1200/- along with the filled application. The DD which is taken in favor of “ICAR UNIT, NDRI, KARNAL” has to be sent to the Registrar, Deemed University, NDRI, Karnal-132001.

How to fill the Form?

  • Fill all the entries in capital letters
  • Include the Pin code while entering the permanent address
  • Telephone number must be entered along with the STD code
  • Complete all the entries with utmost care
  • Enter the date of birth in the same way as it is in the original certificates
