Details of AIMCET Entrance Exam
All India MCA Common Entrance Test, commonly known as AIMCET is conducted for admission to the Master of Computer Applications (MCA) course in various colleges. AIMCET entrance examination is conducted jointly by many leading universities and colleges of India including the IITs, and it is usually conducted in the first week of June.
Eligibility requirements
Candidates should be an Indian national. But Foreign nationals can apply for the MCA course at IITs.
Candidates in order to be eligible to this course should have studied mathematics as one of the subject at the degree level. A Bachelor’s degree with an aggregate of 45% marks in any discipline can apply for this exam.
Those candidates who are appearing for their final year Bachelor’s degree examination are also eligible to apply.
Exam pattern
The examination consists of 200 multiple choice questions. These objective type questions have to be answered in 3 hours time. Correct answer carries four marks and there will be negative marking for incorrect answer. The answers are to be marked in the Objective Response Sheet (ORS) with black HB pencil in the pattern specified.
The examination covers four broad areas i.e..
- Mathematics
- Computer Awareness
- Analytical ability & Logical Reasoning
- General Awareness
In this exam, in the Mathematics section, there will be 100 questions. It would be covering topics studies at 10+2 level. Algebra, Co-ordinate Geometry, Matrices, Differential Calculus, Integral Calculus, Differential Equations, Vector Algebra, Trigonometry, Probability and Statistics, Numerical Analysis and Linear Programming are the topics covered in this section.
Forty objective type questions will be in area of Computer Awareness. Topics included are Elements of computers, Computer Basics, Data Representation, Number systems, Basic electronic Gates, Computer Architecture, Computer Language, Boolean algebra and Flow chart and Algorithms.
Questions on Analytical ability & Logical Reasoning tests a candidate’s logical reasoning, visuo-spatial reasoning and quantitative reasoning. Forty questions are from this area.
There will be twenty objective type questions in General Awareness. These questions tests a candidate’s awareness about healthcare, finance, transportation, governance, scientific inventions, cultural dimensions and business.
Application Procedure
Candidates are required to download the application form the AIMCET official website. Applications can also be bought from the centers listed in the official website.
Filled in application forms should reach the concerned centers before the due date.
Candidates have to fulfill the eligibility criteria for the application to be considered. The specified list of enclosures also has to be correctly attached.
Further admissions will depend on the mark scored in the AIMCET Entrance Exam.
