System Analyst – Job Description
System Analysts are the professionals who analyze requirements and evaluate the implementation of an IT system in an organisation. This is one of the highly paid positions in major IT companies like Accenture, Infosys Limited, Cognizant Technology Solutions, IBM Global Services etc. Average pay scale offered for a System Analyst is between Rs. 2, 00, 000/- to Rs. 12, 00, 000/- per annum depending on experience and scale. To get into this post, one needs to have a Bachelor’s degree in Technology related stream and exceptional skills in the field of programming.
Key Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of a System Analyst is to analyze and evaluate existing or proposed system in an organization and give suggestions for enhancement and changes accordingly. As a first step, they will evaluate the feasibility of current or proposed business procedures on the system. Based on that evaluation, they will plan, configure and install the system. They will also ensure whether the hardware and software interfaces are compatible with the operating system. It is their responsibility to trouble shoot and upgrade operating system, software and hardware interfaces. They will maintain the system documentation to track the changes made on each system.
System Analyst will discuss with the clients about the changes they prefer and consult with the respective managers on how to implement those changes. They will analyze the cost-benefit and return-on-investment of implementation and suggest suitable ways. In each stage of implementation, they will check the required specification and submit a report before the manager.
Their additional responsibilities include training their subordinates and giving assistance in case of system failure.
Education Requirements
Usually B.E, B.Tech or MCA graduates are recruited to the position of System Analyst. Even so, graduates/postgraduates in Computer Science, Information Technology, and Computer Application with exceptional knowledge in object oriented programming languages and adequate work experience are also hired for this job. A minimum of 1 year work experience is also required to get into this post.
Abilities and Skills
Active Learning, Active Listening and Critical Thinking are the main abilities required for a System Analyst. They should have the ability to analyze the skill of people and manage them to utilize it. Also, they should be able to co-ordinate the actions immediately. Judgement and Decision making is another critical skill necessary for them.
Complex Problem solving and programming skills are inevitable for a System Analyst. They should also have good trouble shooting skills to excel in their career. Apart from that, they should have good writing and communication skills.
Remuneration
Remuneration offered for System Analyst will vary according to the company offering that job. Accenture offer a salary of Rs. 5, 00, 000/- to Rs. 12, 00, 000/- per annum to System Analyst where as IBM Global Services offer a salary of Rs. 6, 00, 000/- to Rs. 9, 00, 000/- per annum. System Analysts in Cognizant Technology Solutions can draw a salary range from Rs. 5, 00, 000/- to Rs. 8, 00, 000/- per annum. Those who are working in Infosys Limited can earn a salary between Rs. 2, 00, 000/- to Rs. 8, 00, 000/- per annum.
