Eligibility and Exam Pattern for HTET

Haryana Teachers’ Eligibility Test (HTET) is conducted by the Board of School Education Haryana. HTET is divided into three categories:

  • Category 1- Teachers for class I to V
  • Category 2 – Teachers for class VI to VIII
  • Category 3 – Lecturers for class IX to XII

The eligibility and exam pattern depends on the category to which the candidate applies. Eligible candidates can apply for more than one category.

Eligibility for HTET

All the candidates are required to fulfill the eligibility criteria as specified in the State Recruitment Rules. Applicants should have studied Hindi at the 10/10+2/graduation/post graduation level. Candidates applying for categories 1 and 2 should compulsorily have completed a teacher education course. The teacher education course should be recognized by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). Some of the teacher education courses are as follows:

  • Two year Diploma in Elementary Education
  • Four year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.)
  • Two year Diploma in Education (Special Education)
  • One year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed.)

For those applying for category 1, the minimum educational requirement is a pass in the 10+2 level or an equivalent with a minimum of 50 % along with a two year Diploma in Elementary Education or an equivalent. Candidates who have completed their graduation along with a two year Diploma in Elementary Education or an equivalent are also eligible to apply.

Candidates who have completed their graduation in BA/B.Sc/B.Com with at least 50 % marks along with a teacher education course are eligible to apply for the second category.  Applicants with a minimum of 50% in the 10+2 level or an equivalent along with a Bachelor of Elementary Education degree are also eligible to apply.

For candidates applying for the post of lectures in class IX to XII, the minimum qualification required is a post graduation from a recognized university in the concerned subject with at least 50 % marks.

Exam Pattern for HTET

The HTET follows the objective based multiple choice question format. Each question carries one mark. There will be no negative marks for marking incorrect answers. The minimum qualifying percentage is 60%. The examination features 150 questions to be answered in 90 minutes.

HTET is divided into various sections. Three sections common to all the categories are:

  • Child Development and pedagogy
  • Language I (Hindi)
  • Language II (English)

30 questions will be asked from each of these sections. Each question carries one mark.

In category 1, two other sections featured in the question paper are Mathematics and Environmental Studies. There will be 30 questions from each of these sections. Category 2 exam paper contains one more section along with Child Development and pedagogy, Hindi and English. This section contains 60 multiple choice questions in either Mathematics and Science or Social Science. Candidates who have applied for category 3 are required to attend a section on the concerned subject specified by the candidate.
