SSC ‘Junior Translator’ Recruitment 2013 – Eligibility and Selection Process
Staff Selection Commission has invited applications from master degree holders for the post of ‘Junior Translator’. Recruitment will be made to different offices or departments under the Department of Official Language. PG degree from a recognized University in English or Hindi with Hindi/ English as compulsory or elective subject is the basic qualification required. Selection process is made through a written test and interview. Written test is conducted for 400 marks and interview for 100 marks.
Eligibility Criteria for SSC ‘Junior Translator’ Recruitment 2013
Aspirant must hold any of the following educational qualifications to apply.
- PG degree from a recognized University in English or Hindi with Hindi/ English as compulsory or elective subject or as a medium of examination at UG level
- PG degree in any subject with Hindi/ English as compulsory or elective subject or as a medium of examination at UG level
- PG degree in any subject with Hindi/ English as compulsory or elective subject or with one of the subject as a medium of examination at UG level and the other as a compulsory or elective subject
Apart from any of the qualifications mentioned above, applicant should hold a recognized certificate or diploma in translation from Hindi to English and vice versa. Otherwise, they must have a minimum of two years work experience in translation work from Hindi to English from any of the state/central Government undertakings. Those with matriculate level knowledge in any language other than Hindi mentioned in the eighth schedule of the constitution will be given preference. Upper age limit to apply is 30 years. OBC, SC/ST and PH candidates are offered with concession of age in the order of 3, 5 and 10 years.
Selection Procedure for SSC ‘Junior Translator’ Recruitment 2013
Selection process is made through a written test and interview. Written test is conducted for 400 marks and interview for 100 marks. There will be two papers for the written test, Paper I and Paper II. Paper I comprises of objective model questions from topics of Hindi and English. Questions are designed in such a way as to evaluate candidate’s understanding of languages/literature, right usage of words and phrases, and capability to write the languages correctly and precisely.
Paper II includes translation and essay model questions for 200 marks. Two passages will be given for translation. One passage should be translated from English to Hindi and the other from Hindi to English. Translation and comprehension skills of the candidate are basically evaluated in this paper. Two hour time is given for answering each paper.
