Annamalai University offers many undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The University has a Directorate of Distance Education, approved by the Distance Education Council, Delhi. This Directorate offers education to those who cannot pursue it on a regular basis. Both undergraduate and postgraduate courses are offered by the University in distance education mode. In fact, the University is the first in the country to offer postgraduate courses through distance education.

At the graduation level the University has degree courses in Arts. There is a bachelor’s degree in Sociology also. It is a three years course. There is a paper in the subject Indian Social Institutions in the third year of the course. As the name of the subject suggests the course deals with the study of different cultural beliefs and traditions in the different cultures prevalent in India. It deals with the shortcomings and good things of the different cultural beliefs.

The exam of the subject is of duration three hours. The maximum marks are 100. There are 10 questions in the paper. The students have a choice to answer any five questions. All the questions are of equal marks. Thus each of the questions carries 20 marks. There can be a question where the students are required to write short notes.
