The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is held by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) every year for the admission to B-Tech and other courses accessible at 8 IIT centers all over the country. The October editions of the employment news/rozgar samachar and all leading national dailies will publish the details concerning the application procedure.

Eligibility Criteria

• The applicant must have passed 12th from a recognized board
• She/he must be at least 17 years of age
• Applicants belonging to the OBC/DS/GE categories must have at least aggregate 60% marks in the qualifying exam and those belonging to the SC/ST/PD categories must have at least aggregate 55% marks in the qualifying examination

Application Procedure

Application for the examination can be submitted either by on-line or offline.

On-line

The online application forms can be downloaded from any related site. You have to be very careful while filling up the application form and must follow all the given instructions. The IIT websites will provide information regarding this. Purchasing the hardcopies of the application form is not needed. Nevertheless, there are some things that must be done cautiously like the print-out, fee and other particulars to be sent to the IIT postal address.

For the on-line registration applications, any of the websites given below can be visited. The information given there must be adequately followed. The application fee can be paid through credit and debit cards of major banks all over India or through the challan from selected banks. The reduced examination fee for SC/ST/PD/female candidates is Rs. 450/- and Rs. 900/- for the rest of the candidates.

Off-line

A candidate can buy an application form along with the Information Brochure from any one of the designated branches of banks by paying Rs. 500/- for SC/ST/PD/Female candidates (light green envelope) and Rs. 1000/- must be paid by all other candidates (light blue envelope), this includes the examination fees. The information brochure contains details regarding examination centers, application procedure, and syllabus of JEE, courses available at various institutions, counseling, fee structure and other relevant information.

Filling the Application Form

A few important things to be remembered before the completion of the form:

• The prospectus must be read completely before the completion of the form.
• The form must be completed in BLOCK letters only in the Candidates handwriting.
• The candidate needs to duly check if he/she has got the application form prospectus, attendance sheet, computer registration sheet, admit card, and acknowledgment card.
• The candidate also needs to check if the number printed on all these are the same. Any inconsistency found in anything received needs to be informed to the exam section of the AIIMS.
• The number on the computer registration sheet needs to be noted down.
• Specific codes are to be entered in the computer registration sheet. Lists of all these codes are available in the prospectus. They need to be checked carefully before they are entered.
• A list of centers and their codes can be found in the prospectus
• You must bear in mind that the final decisions on the exam centre are made by the AIIMS.
• Either English or Hindi can be opted as the language for the question paper.
• The filled form has to be sent along with a set of documents mentioned in the prospectus. (Recent passport size photographs, attested copies of matriculation certificate, 12th certificate, conduct certificate, caste certificate- SC/ST and challan form)

Important notes

(i) The JEE can be attempted only twice in consecutive years. That means the first attempt must have been done 2010 for a candidate appearing for second year in 2011.

(ii) If the candidate has accepted admission after qualifying himself in JEE at any preceding years by paying the complete fees at any of the IITs, IT-BHU, Varanasi or ISM, Dhanbad, institutes, he will not be eligible to write JEE at all, it does not matter whether or not he has joined in any of the programmes.
